Sergio Lewis & Sasha Milonova

SASHA MILONOVA
Chapman University, B.A., Economics and Peace Studies (emphasis in Latin America)

While pursuing a degree at Chapman University, Sasha received the top departmental honor in Peace Studies for academic excellence, and was also recognized with the Paul Delp Award for outstanding service to Orange County. As the founder of the first California campus chapter of Oxfam America, an international organization committed to fighting economic injustice, Sasha organized college students around issues of agricultural and trade reform, and effective foreign aid policy. Sasha went on to do fieldwork in Southeast Asia, first as a filmmaker and then as a business consultant. She currently works at the PeaceJam Foundation, an educational organization that connects youth to Nobel Peace Laureates and develops young leaders through service learning projects. This fall, she is heading off to the London School of Economics to pursue a graduate degree in Economic Development. Sasha is fluent in Spanish and Russian. She has led Putney’s Community Service Vietnam and Community Service Costa Rica programs.

SERGIO LEWIS
Brigham Young University, B.A., Linguistics; California State University, Los Angeles, M.A., Geography

Sergio spent two years as a community outreach volunteer in Venezuela and taught English in China and Taiwan. He has backpacked across northern India, researching diverse religious practices and volunteering with humanitarian organizations in Nepal and Bangladesh. Sergio’s work experience includes administering U.S.-sponsored international exchange programs for business professionals. He travels to Costa Rica often to visit his extended family. Sergio is fluent in Spanish, conversational in Mandarin Chinese, and is learning Portuguese. He plans to attend an M.B.A. program in Europe starting this fall. This is Sergio’s second time leading Putney’s Community Service Costa Rica program.
